Fine-pitch COB video walls

Indoor & Outdoor LED Video Wall

In short

A fine-pitch COB LED video wall is a seamless screen of LED cabinets with pixels close enough to view from 1–2 m. MDS Display's P1.25 COB wall uses 600 × 337.5 mm 16:9 cabinets with ≥3,840 Hz refresh, ≥14-bit grayscale, an IP65 front and front maintenance. Ultra-fine P0.93 COB is available for viewing from about 1 m, and the EH-PRO outdoor COB series in P1.56 / P1.95 (3,000 nits, IP65, 500 × 500 mm rental cabinets) for events.

Broadcast studios

LED walls that look right on camera and never go dark

A TV studio wall has two jobs a normal video wall doesn't: it must look clean through broadcast cameras, and it must keep running during a live show. For the CNBC Arabia studio (April 2024) we built a curved wall about 10 m × 2 m from custom P1.56 flexible panels with:

  • 7,680 Hz refresh and a frame rate matched to the studio cameras, so there is no flicker or scan lines on air
  • Dual network cables to every cabinet: if one cable fails, the other carries the signal
  • Two video processors and two sets of sending cards running as hot backup, so a hardware fault never blacks out the wall
  • Flexible panels that follow a smooth, natural curve with an even, flat surface and no visible steps or seams, even in close camera shots

Why COB

COB vs SMD for close viewing

COB (chip-on-board) seals the LED chips under a flat protective layer. Compared with standard SMD LEDs, the surface resists knocks and dust, the IP65 front can be wiped clean, and the image looks smoother from close range.

FAQ

Indoor & Outdoor LED Video Wall questions

Can you build an LED wall for a TV studio?

Yes. For broadcast we match the frame rate to the cameras and raise the refresh rate to 7,680 Hz to avoid flicker and scan lines, and we add dual network cables, dual video processors and dual sending cards so the wall keeps running if one part fails. Our CNBC Arabia studio wall uses custom P1.56 flexible panels built this way.

Can the video wall be serviced from the front?

Yes. The P1.25 COB cabinets are front-maintenance, so they can be mounted flat against a wall.

What screen sizes are possible?

Cabinets are 600 × 337.5 mm, a 16:9 ratio, so common sizes such as 2.4 × 1.35 m or 4.8 × 2.7 m can be built from whole cabinets.
